How is this possible? I have all the basses I need, yet I really want this one! I can snag it for 175$. I think the strap is 40-50$.
Is anyone familiar with this model? Looks too good to be true. I know Samick makes billions of guitars/basses, but I can't find any info on this one. Is their active system any good? Or am I wasting 175$ on a pretty face.
    Whaddya think?
If your in Montreal, feel free to snipe it away from me, then I won't be thinking about it.

I for one have never played a Samick I like. Not something I would even look twice at. My two cents.

$175 for a neck-through bass with the case? I'd at least check it out in person - if the neck is nice and it's not a boat anchor, you can always mod the electronics to taste and have a cool bass for not a lot of dough.

It looks pretty sweet. Except for that sticker of the guy peeing on it. Why would anyone put that on there?

  7. Looks like a nice bass for $175, especially with the case and strap. I would check it out first and if the neck was straight I would nab it. Samick makes some good stuff in that price point. I have a Samick acoustic guitar that is about 17 years old and still plays great.

I don't like any of their really cheap stuff. But their higher end enstruments like that one are pretty good. I haven't played many of their higher end basses but played a few of their Greg Bennett sign guitars that were really well made and could easily hang with any Gibson I've played. That one should at least be worth a look.

LOL. I was trying to figure out what the heck that sticker was. I agree, what a stupid thing to put on a nice looking bass.

I don't know anything about this Samick model, but for that price, it's certainly worth checking out!

Samick GAS is much easier on the pocketbook than Fodera Gas!

People throw stones at Samick, but if you own a non US bass of decent quality, they probably made it.

Not for many, many years. They folded a long time ago after some kind of scandal.

Cor-Tek took over Korean production, and did a far, far better job of it.

Speaking as a lover of cheap basses, how can you NOT GAS for this one. I've seen a variety of Samick basses some very cool some not worthy of the name bass. In my view the key to cheap bass heaven is one EXACTLY like this: Killer wood! Killer over-all shape and design. Reasonable useable hardware and electronics that are easily upgradable and lastly (which is the question here) a neck with killer potential. Obviously the neck-through and wenge stripes are are REALLY good start! Of course you may end up with a fret-leveling or Plek job or whatever to bring the neck around and a twisted defective neck would be very bad news, but otherwise, this thing looks to me like the raw materials for a decent boutique bass without too much added cash! WALNUT! How can one NOT have GAS?

I'm sorry folks, this one's gone rabid. It's only humane thing that we put him down.

Not sure what the Cor-Tek reference is, but I know Samick is still out there - as one of the world's largest instrument manufacturers.

Not so much in Korea, where they used to be HUGE. Most of their production moved to China after some big scandal years ago. Cor-tek, which was a distant second, took over the market, which they still retain. Both appear to have moved into Indonesia in a big way. Samick seems to be making a comeback of sorts, mainly with Chinese production.

i have a very good, if not excellant condition 5 string Samick for sale in the "classifieds" right here on TB.....check this one out, and less then 175!! i can always charge the extra 25 bucks if that makes ya feel any better :D

  19. I picked up a Samick 5 here this past month. It came in on a Monday, I think. I set it up on Tuesday with a new set of tapewounds and gigged it on Wednesday and Thursday. Solid instrument with a great sound and nice action.

The one I purchased is a different model from the one nubs is selling, I think it was their top of their line at the time. Solid player I could take anywhere and it can hang with anything. I was looking at nubs sale and gassing for it myself.
