I was "somewhat" recently commissioned to build a 5str bass for a customer, after he had purchased one of my basses through a local store. During the build, he contacted me telling me that he found a bass on Ebay that was very similar to my style. It turns out that it was the first bass i made that i never completed! I actually left the bass in a closet during a move about 6 years ago. I'm not sure how it turned up in his hands but he had a local luthier in Houston complete the bass and this is how it turned out. Please post your opinions. I'm considering utilizing this body style again, so any feedback is appreciated.
I like it a lot. I'm pretty sure I saw that one on ebay as well. How does it compare(visually)w/your current finished work?
Without being able to hold it in my hands (it's 2000 miles away), it's hard to say. Visually, i'm very happy with the results! The upper horn is a bit longer, and i used a point at the neck behind the bridge. It loosely resembles my current body style, but different enough to offer as a 4th style.
Am I the only one who can't open the link to your website? I'd like to look at your other work and can't ):
sorry, the site is down at the moment. I've contacted the guy that runs it for me. He's workin on getting it back up.
That is really cool. 1) can you post some more pics 2) how much of the bass was done before you left the house and how much was done when you left? 3) I love the shape, but I don't like the point towards the back
Looks amazing and great story too. I see a mixture between Jerzy Drozd and Alembic in the body shape. I love the top wood too.
everything was finished other than the pickup routs and control cavity. i had it strung up and playing when i lost it. and yes, i was going for a mix between jerzy, alembic, and CT.
Do you have any info about the luthier? I live in houston and would be thrilled to play that instruments.
according to LMI, it's 2000+ year old redwood. very soft. i dropped one of the wings and it dented pretty bad.
You can see this bass on my website www.tradingbasses.com and you can contact me at [email protected] (that's 3 zeros) I can give you info on the luthier as well.
Did i get this right, you moved out and forgot a bass in the closet!??!?!?! I love your designs, i had already been in yous web site, your basses look beautiful.
yeah, when i first moved to michigan, i was moving around about every 6 months. i would always lose something every time i moved. one time it just happened to be this bass.
