If you were to create a dream line-up consisting of any musicians who would be in it. Here's mine. (dead or alive)

Frank Zappa - Composer and occasional guitar solos
    Jaco Pastorius - Bass
    Antonio Sanchez - Drummer
    Billy Martin - Drummer
    Ethan Iverson - Piano
    Al Di Meola - Guitar
    John Scofield - Guitar

    Frederick Fennell - Tuba
    Liu Fang - Pipa
    Rupali Dulal - Sitar
    Jonathon Dubose - Guitar
    Pete Lockett - Percussion
    Wayman Tisdale - Bass
    "Chembo" Corniel - Vibra-slap

    Ray Charles - kazoo
Stanley Clarke - those latin finger clacker things
    Billy Cobham - oboe
    Earl Van Dyke - spoons
    Joe Pass - the timpanis
    Tom Waits - singing

But only if I'm really drunk. Otherwise let those guys play their respective instruments and let Tom Waits do whatever it is he does.
  4. Tom Scott - Tenor sax
    Paquito D'Rivera - Alto sax/clarinet
    Gary Burton - Vibes
    Steve Gadd - Drums
    Grant Geisman - guitar
    Oscar Stagnaro - Bass
    Joe Sample - Keys

There are many others I like, but these guys would be my first choice.

    Mike

You can't expect me to figure this out in one sitting. Just like "what is the greatest gitar riff of all time?" I would almost need to lock myself in a room for a few days to figure it all out. Remind me to do it tomorrow.

A story on the TB front page reminded me that I'd like to see this lineup...

    Sting: bass/vocals
    Andy Summers: guitar
    Stewart Copeland: drums

...but I doubt I'll be seeing that particular combo again soon!
  11. Zappa and Ler Lalonde on guitar, Geddy on bass, Stew Copeland on drums. That would be an eclectic bunch.
  12. Percy Jones on bass
    Bill Bruford on drums
    Bill Connors on guitar
    Wayne Shorter on sax

would it be an insane lineup? yes. yes, it would.

  13. okay...it's a death metal band though

    karl sanders: guitar/vocals
    fredrik thordendal: guitar
    me: bass
    flo mournier: drums
    galder: keyboards
  14. Matt Till

    Robert Fripp: Guitar
    Bill Bruford: Drums
    Steve Wilson: Keys
    Matt Till: Bass
    Mike Patton: Vocals (maybe)

I'd bog everyone else down... but, that would be cool. I wouldn't hang out with Patton after the show though... Patton <3's Patton. I'd probably want some other percussion. I'd want to make crazy enegetic weird music, and I'd want a rhythmic singer. I wouldn't want Patton to "tatatatatatata pulat pow" all the time though.
  15. An alternate:

    Robben Ford - guitar
    Christian McBride - bass
    Ramsey Lewis - Keys www.ramseylewis.com
    Max Roach - drums

That would be a band worth hearing!

  16. Marcus Miller on bass
    Harvey Mason on drums
    Nile Rogers on guitar
    Ernie Watts on sax

a little different from my previous list, no? I'll have another lineup for you cats soon.
