Cult Movies

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by ChiliPepper, Feb 23, 2006.

  1. What movies would you consider as cult movies ? Here are a few of my favs:

    The Godfather
    Blues Brothers
    The Big Lebwoski
    Pulp Fiction
    Taxi Driver

that's all i can think of right now...I'm sure i forgot a few..
  2. Is Fight Club a cult movie.

    If so, that one.
  3. See, I thought the definition of a cult flick was something that didn't do well at the box office, but had a strong fan base that kept rentals and sales up long after it left the theaters. For that, I would nominate:

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness series

    Galaxy Quest

    13th Warrior

Any of the Wallace and Grommit movies

    Rock on

The original. Not the Viggo Mortenson crappy remake.

Hmm, mine are all car movies. Hmm, Mopars in particular. ;)
  5. Thanks Kelly, that reminded me of another one:

    Gumball Rally

WAY better than Cannoball. Decent acting, but incredible shots of a Ferrari Daytona and a 427 Cobra going head to head down desert highways. Amazing.

    Rock on

Hmmm... I don't see how you could ever consider "The Godfather" as a Cult movie? It was one of the biggest movies of all time. I can't think of a single adult that I know that's never seen it numerous times? I mean, how can it be a Cult movie if it's won an Oscar? :meh:

Anyway, for me a Cult movie would be something that's not mainstream, never won any awards, never did well in the Box Office when Originally released, etc..., BUT, has a strong following by a particular demographic.

A couple of movies I would consider Cult Movies would be The Rocky Horror Picture Show and RepoMan. ;)

    Have Fun!

    Some more...

    The Warriors
    The Wanderers
    Max Max / Road Warrior
    Easy Rider
    Heavy Metal

Theres so many good ones. Come to think of it, all my favorite movies could be considered cult classics.

Now that we're talking modern, Napoleon Dynamite would qualify.

I've never seen Troopers, but good call on Office Space.

Do yourself a favour and check it out. "These schnozberries taste like schnozberries!"

Napolean Dynamite was hilarious in a sad and disjointed kind of way. I wouldn't have thought that a movie of one liners would work, but them crazy Mormons sure showed me.

As for Donnie Darko, I watched it (several times) and I think I liked it, but I sure didn't get it.

Donnie Darko fans should check out the directors cut which came out recently. It includes alot of deleted scenes which make the movie make alot more sense.

    I still don't fully get it though...lol.

Its not that complicated of a movie..people tend to think into it too much. There is a certain element of it that is supposed to be not fully explained. The director's cut kinda ruins that for me.

I'd have to vote "Escanaba In The Moonlight"

If anyone here has ever heard of such a thing. ;)

Not a movie, but a director - Lucio Fulci. Also, Troma Films.
