I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this Curbow IEP 6'r. But I'm not sure because in the picture of the back side of the bass it shows it's an 18 volt pre. Did Greg put 18 volt systems in his basses? I'm thinking maybe a previous owner had the bass modified?
I'm looking for any input from the Curbow aficionado's on TB. :help:

I can't answer your question but I will say this.....if I had the money and found a Curbow IEP 6, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Amazing instruments. There won't ever be another bass made like them.

I feel the same way. I am just a few hours of pulling the trigger, I just would like to make sure the bass has the original electronics. If it does great, it's mine.... but if not, it may have a different sound than what I want. :)

I'm sure you could get the original electronics if it doesn't have them.

  5. It's hard to say if it's original or not, but keep in mind that Curbow was a 100% custom company. I'm guessing if someone wanted a 18v pre-amp, they got it. Still, they're some of the best basses I've ever been able to play and probably have the best B in 34" scale.

Thanks for the information.... and I just got off the phone with Doug Somervell and he did confirm that they indeed started installing the 18 volt pre's around the late 90's or 2000. So... I'm off to purchase. I'll post some pictures later! :hyper:

  7. Good for you! I'm a big fan of some 18v pre-amps as the extra head room can really expand the tonal range of the bass.

Doug is a good man! Apparently he's building basses again, too!
