Curious, anyone try a Lane Poor Preamp???

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by orangejulius3, Dec 4, 2013.

  1. I've been doing some research as I want to upgrade my Warwick Corvette $$ buck 4 string.
I'm leaning towards the Aguilar OBP 2tk pre.

I just looked into John East J-retro.
That preamp really makes me want to change out my Fender Jazz 4.

I've looked at Lane Poor to upgrade my double humbucker pups in my warwick and maybe my jazz, while scrolling through there site, I notice the have an On Board pre. I couldn't find any videos or threads online. Anyone has any comment on these?

When I tried the original LP preamp many years ago it was the most neutral sounding preamp I had ever encountered. When engaged it sounded exactly like the passive tone but louder. Later I realized this was no easy feat since all preamps inherently buffer the signal which opens up the high frequencies considerably. As I recall the LP EQ was more subtle than say Bartolini or Aguilar, like it was designed to be a tasteful enhancement and not a radical tone sculptor.
  3. Thanks for the insight, good to know.
