Hi all. I'm in the market for a nice electric bass that is somewhat unusual in appearance and versatile (or unique) in sounds. I'm considering Rob Allen, or Rick Turner basses, and I'm trying to stay under $3000. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

this thread mentions quite a few of the luthiers who are doing nice work, and many TB'ers have actual experience with their basses. Should be quite a few links to explore:

Hi.. Try looking at Mørch guitars. www.morch-guitars.dk

Very unique both sound and aesthetics.

brows threw www.edromanguitars.com's bass selections. Check out the R&B basses. They are my dream bass :>

  5. My teacher has a Rob Allen that looks and sounds great (particularly for Jazz or just a good fretless sound). However, I'm not sure it would be real versatile.

My recommendations would include Hanewinckel, Roscoe, Surine, Nordstrand, JAF (I have one on order), etc...
