4 years ago I built my own custom made bass and the Carvin neck-through is starting to warp and cannot be salvaged. For that reason and a few others, I would like to scrap the entire bass I built and have another custom 4 string made by an experienced luthier. However, I already have the hipshot hardware, Aero pickups, and a Mike Pope preamp. I really like the sound of the pickups and preamp and considering they were custom made for me, I would like to put them on my next bass.

Can anyone make recommendations for luthiers I should email or call who may be willing to build me a bass for less than $1500 knowing I have the pickups, preamp, and hardware? My budget is less than $1500. I'm basically looking for good craftsmanship at a good price (best value). I'd like a stable set-neck or neck-through with a zebrawood top. Besides those specs I'm open to any suggestions that would keep me within budget. I am not interested in building myself a Warmoth bass or converting Peavey/Carvin/etc. I am also not interested in jazz style basses.

I had the same thing done here in Ohio. I would think any good luthier would take the job. I've been out of Illinois for a while, but I highly recommend Bob Gorny. BOB GORNY CUSTOM GUITAR AND REPAIR - CHICAGO

Great suggestion. I've met Bob Gorny and he is a good luthier. However, he builds more electric guitars than electric basses. I'd like to stick with someone who strictly specializes in custom basses.
