Guys my experience with custom basses and luthiers is very limited, so i was sondering if i could have some help. Ive been scoping out eBay, looking for a vintage fender, but of course they all sell for a very steep price, when i got to thinking, wouldnt it be cheaper to buy vintage (im thinging 60's) fender parts and then taking them into a luthier to get put together? However, I could be wrong, this maight be not be a smart option, either for price or quality control issues. If anyone can help me out here, it would be much apreciated.

With so many fake 'vintage' Fenders and fake parts, I don't see how you could possibly make sure that what you are getting has anything to do with a real vintage Fender. You'd be better off buying a Fender Reissue, or one of the Custom Shop versions - relic, Time Machine Series etc.

The Fender Customs shop is nice. You could also try places like Lull , Lakland or Sadowsky which make super high end Fender styled instruments.

if you're willing to be patient for the right parts to come along, then i think it's a good idea.

If he were looking into building it from parts, I'd much rather recomend going to Warmoth or USA Custom. If he's gonna look for "Genuine Vintage parts" it's gonna cost ALOT & how does one know if a 60's neck is striahgt with out buying it & installing is & THEN finding out if it is good or not. Then their is the fact that it might be a fake. :(
