Custom Hanewinckel Bass Progress Pics

  1. SPECS:

    Vintage Series 5-String BO
    Passive Vol/Blend/Tone controls
    Wide Neck (3/4" spacing)
    34" Scale
Handwound Dual Coil pickups with Alnico V magnets
    Pau Ferro pickup covers
    70's J pickup spacing
    IN/OUT switch (see explanation below)
Paua Abalone headstock and fingerboard dot inlays (MOP side dots)
    3-piece Maple neck
    Pau Ferro fingerboard
    Alder Body with Walnut top
Draken body style with full-rounded body edges
    Standard chrome hardware
    Dunlop Straploks

The IN/OUT switch is interesting IMO. When not engaged, the Blend control will work as expected. When engaged, moving the Blend control toward the neck will favor the outside coils (think J-Bass), and moving the Blend control toward the bridge will favor the inside coils (think MM-ish). All settings are humbucking.

    PICS!!!

That should be a really sweet bass!

  6. Thanks a lot. That means a lot coming from a guy who has owned some very nice Hanewinckel basses. :)

Yeah, looking good. I'd thought I posted this before, but I guess I didn't - the In/Out switch was my idea! :) I modded my first Hanewinckel bass like that, then asked Pete to do it on my 2nd (a fretless).

  10. I do somewhat recall talking with you about that a few years ago. Definitely seems like a great idea! Are you now a millionaire? ;)

  11. Tag!!

  12. Does that mean I'm "it"? Not much chance I can catch anybody else. I did something weird to my knee last weekend... ;)

  13. Im just tagging the thread so I can see the finished results of that bass.

    Very Nice!!

Tagging for future reference. I always liked the idea of multiple coil combinations - and this definitely looks interesting - I wonder how it should be wired. :smug:

Will the dual-coils be dual-Jazz style, MM style or are you going with dual rails?

That is going to be a classy looking bass.

  16. What's the scale?

  17. Oh, okay. Gotcha!

My understanding is the pickups will be dual rails/coils under a single pickup shell/cover. Kinda like the diagram suggests.

That's high praise coming from you. Thanks!

I opted for a 34" scale. That's the scale Pete prefers, and I'm pretty sure Cliff prefers it as well.

I'm not subbed, but man that bass is looking slick! It's really coming together.
