Custom Ibanez Fretless

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Sanitarium, Sep 18, 2005.

  1. Well, customized by me, at least.

The previous owner of this Ibanez jumpstart bass had defretted it, not done that great a job of it....he decided to no longer play bass and sold it to me for 20 bucks. I sanded it down, and stained it red mahogany, cleaned up the fingerboard a bit. What do you all think?

  2. Its a little beat looking in spots, but it looks great for $20

    The important question is

    how does it play?
  3. It plays pretty well, I like it. The sound is certainly unique. The beat looking spots are some random light wood Ibanez decided to stick in there, I'd imagine as filler, that the stain seeped all the way through and made black.

It's ugly in a sort of antiqued, sentimental way. I'd love to have at least one bass that looks like it's been beat to hell through many years. Looks like a score.
