One of my very first basses was an old Mustang. And like an idiot, I sold it back in the day for an insanely low amount of money (probably for $100!!!). I have been pondering the idea of adding a short scale to my collection and was wondering who, if anybody, could-would build me a short scale Mustang bass. I would buy factory Fender, but I would probably want to modify it to the point that it might more economical for me look for a builder.......here are some things I think would be cool in Mustang; Active/Passive? Ultralight hardware?? maybe a deluxe top??? heck, maybe even a 5 string???? What do you guys/girls think?
I think a 5-string would properly be named "Death By Neck Dive". Too much neck for that light body. Hardware, colors, other creativity? Go for it. I've been considering painting a bass in one of the "Mystic" car colors that change color as your point of view moves.
I love the idea of a custom Mustang. If graphite is your thing, Moses has announced they will be making Mustang necks.
I would say: passive, 4 string, with a rosewood fingerboard, lite hardware, no pickguard, dark star pickups, and a spalted flamed maple top
It would be a -fat- short scale. Very square. I think string tension could be an issue, but I'd love to see it!
you mean wider string spacing? those were discussed either in that thread or in the short scale thread. i can't remember where the discussion was.
