custom necks

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by wotnwhy, Apr 1, 2002.

  1. i want a 6-string, 24 fret neck neck with no fret markers

i've contacted warmoth and they are unable to do this, so...

does anyone know where i could get a neck like this (somewhere in the uk would be a bonus)?

i fancy a koa neck and pau ferro fretboard, what are the pros/cons of this?

    thanks for any help

Warmoth Gecko necks are 24 fret. They are available 5-string and 6-string. Did you ask them not to add the lizard inlay, and did they turn you down?

  3. this is what they said when i asked them the questions:

do you do the neck without the gecko inlay?
    NO

would you send the neck unfreted to someone who will do custom inlays and then take it back to fret it?
    NO

would you make a 6-string neck with 24 frets?
    NO

so in answear (sp?) to your question:
    yes, and they said no.

i REALLY need this neck done so any help will be GREATLY appreciated

I once had impure thoughts. Oh, and I pluck my ear hair.
As an aside, someone on this board had told me a couple of months ago that I could find replacement neck for my Warwick at Warmoth.

    Warmoth's reponse to my e-mail?

    "Sorry, no true."

    WELL, then!!! ;)

  7. here's another source. know of them thru ads they have in bass player. don't know quality of work.

Jon Shuker mentioned that he had done replacement necks for basses, so maybe he could help you out.

  9. I'm looking for the same neck.. If you find somewhere please let me know too..

I made similar searches and found Carvin.

At www.carvin.com they offer a 24 fret six string neck. It's got dots on the fretboard but as an option of $20 extra you can have it without dots (I don't see the point I don't want something extra but I make their job easier with not bothering them to put dots on the fretboard and they charge an extra cost for this!). It's a body-through neck. But for their CS, well I don't wanna say anything bad but go and see how they reply.. I really wanted to buy from them but now NO WAY! I'm going custom here in Istanbul and it would cost less if you take into considereation the tax and shipping cost. It will be made 100% after my choices and the luthier won't piss me telling that he only accepts credit card taken from an American or Canadian bank (whatever you used your non American credit card times and times at some online stores as amazon.com, bn.com and many more without any problem), he doesn't accept WU money transfer etc.. Well if they don't want me to sell something I won't beg them...

BTW the direct link for the neck is:
    http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exe?CFG=2&P2=NT6B&P1=BKT

Good luck and if you find the neck soon, please let me know too....

Martin Peterson will build you whatever you want. He is the dude who builds SEI basses (http://www.seibass.co.uk/). You should be able to reach him at the Gallery (02072675458).
I was going to get him to make me a new neck for my jazz, but my money ran out.
Bernie Goodfellow may be able to make you one: http://www.gbguitars.clara.net/.
Nightingale Guitars may be able to help you: http://www.nightingaleguitars.com/.
    And maybe Overwater: http://www.overwater.co.uk/

And as Hujo said Shuker look cool. There are a few other people I know who could do it so ask if you want some more info.

    *EDIT spelling :rolleyes*
