TBers , I have just finished a quick parts bass and am looking for a pick guard Warmoth seem to be the only supplier I can find who do pick guards without a hole in however it would be nice if I could find a company that does pick guards with a custom pickup hole as well, Warmoth won’t do this, does anybody happen to have found such a service, it would seem logical that if you make pick guards you would have a cnc router so cutting a rectangular hole would be easy, it’s for a Curtis Novak DS BS pickup that is amazing, I have butchered a P pick guard but want something more finished Thank you in advance
Pickguardian will make anything you want, but it isn’t cheap, I think they start at $35 and up. He has templates for all the common shapes, and will cut to a custom pattern if you send him a tracing. Very nice quality. There are other custom guard makers, somebody will chime in with more names. If you have a router and a pattern bit, not that hard to make your own.
You can make your own by getting a 2' X 2' piece of melamine, some mold release spray, epoxy and fiberglass cloth. Various dyes can be used, or an old Hawaiian-print shirt, or Japanese hand-made paper, or festive wrapping paper, whatever. There's colorful carbon fiber out there that would look awesome! Just set down your layers dry, then pour on the catalyzed resin, and squeegee out the excess. If you want a shiny top, put down some stretch food wrap first. When set, pop up and cut to size.
Thanks I do have a router and the template however after the last build I am under orders from the wife no routing in the apartment, this will obviously be ignored and I will be found out but not for a few months
That sounds like a Sawdust Incident, and She who you Adore was not amused. I had a similar story involving blue spray paint that my wife occasionally reminds me of. I hadda build a knock down spray booth.
