    Hi there,
I was fortunate enough to purchase a 2019 Custom Shop NOS '62 Jazz bass.
I'm a little surprised by the weak output of the bridge pickup.
I'd approximate that it is 60-70% of the neck pickup with regards to output at same volume level. In addition, more than any other bass I've played the tone knob actually offers a little volume with the brightness. Does this sound consistent with Fender CS Jazz pickups?

The build sheet lists them as:

    Vint J-Bass Rhythm 0020906000
    Vint J-Bass Lead 0020908000

I've played multiple Jazz basses of a more modern era, and I guess I expected a little more high end and high mids. These pickups seem a touch muddy. I'm yet to remove the chrome pickup covers so my fingers have not been directly over the strings. However, string height looks spot on.
I'm assuming my ear is trained to be used to modern and not vintage style pickups.
Thank you in advance for any insight.
    Chris

Shouldn't have a big delta in the output. I'm assuming you are referring to the height of the pickups?

    That's gorgeous, by the way.

Yes, I was referring to pickup height. Thanks for the correction and insight.

P Cheen Alembics and parametric mid knobs scare me.

It’s most likely that you’re just used to more modern basses. I experienced that lately after getting a ‘04 Hwy 1 Jazz and was surprised at how mellow it is. Maybe it’s the lack of poly finish? Anyway my solution will probably will be getting a set of 70’s wind pickups! But for your case i’m sure you won’t want to change a thing with that beauty!

I think you are absolutely right. My ear has already adjusted and I'm loving the vintage sound!
I have a 2017 Elite Jazz that is a fantastic instrument and very bright. That is probably what caused my ear to need re-training. Appreciate your thoughts!
