Hi all, It appears I will soon be the owner of a Status MM5 neck, new and unused. I have a piece of ash that is large enough, a template to cut the body and have the hardware chosen; Hipshot A bridge and Ultralight tuners. I'd like to do a dual pickup with the 5 way switch, and @ctmullins has just kindly provided a wiring diagram for me. I'd prefer it looked close-ish to factory so I'd like pickups with 3 ears in preference to the rectangular V shape. It seems I'm limited in choice with these being all I can find; - Nordstrand - QTuners - Herricks (bit too many $ for me) - Rautia MC (way too much $) The body and all the hardware will be black, so I could really put any sort of PUs in it but as it's going to be my first partial build, I'd like to get it as close to what I see in my head a possible. Preamp will be my design, but functionally the same as the MM unit, but I might add a 3 position mid EQ a la Ibanez. Any suggestions guys? I'm not really an SR sort of guy, but love Status necks and it seems a sensible place to start. PS: I've been doing some rough experiments with my own multicoil winds, but they're still too rough and I don't have the 3D printer yet to make the cases, but they will come.
Try hitting up Jerry Sentell from Sentell pickups. He’s local to me (Sacramento, Calif.), but I think he ships outside the country. Good luck!
That's the only reason I'm considering it as a project. Looks like it's going to cost me a swap for some vintage audio gear that's just gathering dust in my store anyway. It's going to be very non traditional in that it will be rear routed with no PG and no control plate. Cheers. I'm writing some emails to send off to Delano and Sentell today. Thanks for the tip. I recall seeing his PUs in other threads but I'd forgotten about them.
Highly recommend Sentell. You can't beat having a pickup custom wound to your sound and he doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for it. He has a pretty fast turnaround
Looks fine to me. The site has had a mild facelift, but everything’s there. https://www.sentellpickups.net/bass
