See if you think these would be a nice finishing touch to your bass. All are hand-made (OK, I did use a drill press and hand drill in their creation), and finished with oil. They will fit standard push-on shaft pots and solid shaft pots; no set screws needed. If you need more knobs than the number I show here, PM me; I probably can come up with another one or two.
    First up-

Yellowheart (I think) knobs. Set of four, with one of them slightly smaller (think tone knob on a Jazz). Please note that while the pics are close, the true colors of these knobs are slightly lighter in person. Also it's difficult to get the true sheen in these pics.

$35 shipped, CONUS. If you only need three of these, PM me; might consider it. -SOLD!

Next, two knobs of Yellowheart for your P bass-

$15 shipped, CONUS -SOLD! No more Yellowheart at present, but will get some soon.

Set of four Black Walnut knobs, two of which are stacked (concentric). Again, if you only need one stack and/or another single knob, PM me.

$45 shipped, CONUS -I can make plenty more of these, with minor variations in the darkness of the wood

    Finally, spalted Walnut-

$35 shipped, CONUS -SOLD! But I can make some more, with variations in the amount of spalting.

Remember that these are wood, and as such, there may be some variations in texture and slight variations in size, but nothing that will be evident after installation.

For a view of some of the woods available, you can peruse this album-

BTW, independent research has shown that these are the best knobs for metal.

How do these work on solid shaft pots without a set screw?

It took some trials, but I've cut the holes in the knobs just the right size to fit 1/4" solid shaft pots. As long as you don't take them off every time you put your bass away, they will fit nicely. Thanks for looking!

I'm interested in the walnut knobs, but need to know the shaft dimensions. Can you add set screws? I'd only need one stack, and three singles.

I'm at work right now, so I can't measure the stacked shaft on my bass, but the hole is drilled with 5/16" bit, so I imagine the shaft is 3/8". For the singles, they will fit 1/4" shafts, either split shaft or solid. I have all of the above on my basses, and they fit solidly. Just to make sure, when you mention walnut, do you mean the plain or spalted? Thanks for looking!

Very happy with the knobs I purchased (spalted walnut) seem to fit real well without the set screw. Thanks again!

I just got a set of Jim's knobs in Rosewood and I'm very impressed. They fit nice and snug on my 6mm shafted pots.

 Oh, my, that's one pretty bass!

If you guys like what you see and have an idea for knobs, PM me a pic of your bass, and I'll see what I've got in the wood pile to go with it.

  17. Hi, is the concentric / stacked knobs use a set screw?
do you still had the set of 2 single knob and 2 stacked (any wood)

Just got knobs today and they are perfect. I only used three of them since I was convinced by my friends that it looked cooler with the volume knob as is, I agreed. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pick but, the knobs match the pick-guard very nicely.
    Couldn't be happier!!!

  19. Added purple heart knobs to my redwood topped Clement #300
