What does it mean to 'cut through' I've heard people say "I don't NEED to cut through" ... does it mean being heard or what?

It means being heard, or being audible in the overall mix.

That's what I thought... why wouldn't you wanna cut through? Doesn't that derive from the total purpose of having bass?
  4. I guess the people that feel they don't need to cut through either:

    1 - Don't know what it means.

2 - Belong to the camp of bassist that prefer to be felt rather than heard.
