D'Addario Chromes problem/question

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by sinisamars, Jul 9, 2002.

  1. Hi guys...this would be my first message to this forum..:))

I've got a set of D'Addario Chromes a few days ago, and I've noticed
that when I run my fingers over them, they paint my fingertips a bit gray. Is it a common thing for new set of Chromes and I just have to wipe them or what? Any recommendations on taking care of these strings?

    please respond,

ha ha -- yes, I had the same exact experience for my first new Chromes a month ago (a used set were on a bass I bought last year)
    -- kinda gross isn't it ?
I figured it might be some sort of silicon lubricant or something with their sealed packaging ??
  3. great strings and a very easy fix. before you put them on, take a rag with some denatured alcohol on it and wipe the string down. do it a couple times till no more black stuff comes off. leaves the strings clean and shinny.

  5. Hey, thanks man!

From what I see, this is really the finest bass forum of many I've visited... Good thing is that there are subcategories... easier to follow threads and everything...

    Well, read ya, man! ;)
