D'addario Sws, Exls, or Xls

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Davidoc, Dec 12, 2000.

  1. I am looking into a set of D'addario roundwound for my bass. Would you advise Exl, Xl, or Slowound strings?

Price is not a major concern
  2. EXL165 is all you got to know. I use them exclusively. Cheap and good. I think Musician's Fiend is having a sale like 2 packs for $25 or something. I think the difference between EXL and XL is the environmental packaging on the EXL's, not sure though. Never tried slowounds, never felt the need.

Don't overlook D'Addario Prisms especially if you're a slapper. They're nice and bright and hold their sound a long time.

If you are interested in D'Addarios, I reccomend going to http://www.webstrings.com. You can get bass strings for $10/set, including shipping. I have some on my MIA '75 Jazz Reissue, and they sound, and play, exactly like D'Addario XLs. I used to use Slowounds exclusivly. They are still my fave bass string, but YMMV.
