Hey all!! Just wanted to take a second to recognize the great achievement(s) of @father of fires. He built the MBD1, a mosfet bass distortion and is continuing to excite and impress me. I gotta tell you guys that don't know by now, for me, the MBD1 changed it all. I have tried a lot of dirt boxes in the few years I've been a member here and the MBD1 pretty much changed the game for me. It made me hear and see my board in a whole new and exciting way. I still can't believe how huge and awesome it sounds in a band mix. I will be an MBD1 user for a while. He builds some other things as well, the Contour Preamp is one that I got to try and would love to have some more time with it one of these days. With that said, Jeff is one of the coolest and nicest dudes I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He's really open minded and has a ton of great ideas. I really can't wait to see and hear what the future holds for him and his awesome creations. I've had the luck to work with a handful of really goods people I've met through this community and Jeff is def one of them. So come one all, share in the Damnation love with me!! Thanks to @EMoneySC2 for having the idea of starting this thread. What a great idea!! I hope this will be THE thread Damnation heads come to when Jeff drops a something new Thanks for being here and contributing to all of you!
Subbed!! Don't have one yet but MBD-1 is on the top tier for my next pedal purchase. Also will be nice to see what comes out next. Cheers!
Arguably this is a going-on-60-page appreciation thread for Damnation Audio, but it never hurts to spread more love. My MDB-1 is definitely one of those I'll Never Sell It pedals, and I don't even feel like I've begun to tap its potential.
Yeah I know. That was more towards the MBD1. This is for fans of Jeff and any and all pedals/creations he will be working on in the future. Some of us thought it was fitting. I know what you mean though.
My MBD-1 is still the best dirt box I've ever played through. I love it. It's kicked much more pricey pedals right out the door. Its massive with a gigantic set of nuts when you kick it on.
{} Never sell is right - I don't think I've even turned mine off since I got it. Talk about popping out of the mix. Goes from mild grunt to full scream..... best dirt pedal ever
MBD-1 is a keeper for sure. Adds extra sauce to my B7K for hard rock/metal, but I can use the MBD-1 to phatten up my tone for ANY genre: country, blues, funk, Motown, pop, jazz, etc etc. I don't have any of the other DA inventions, but I'm interested, so I've subbed here too so I don't miss anything.
Count me in! This thing rips!!!!!! P.S. If you like what @father of fires give a listen to this! Jesus, Mary, and Broseph EP, by Asthma Castle
Contour preamp -- can you explain what it is? I suck at Facebook, don't do Instagram or Twitter, and if there was info about it in the MBD-1 thread I missed it. I see no knobs so I have a hunch, but I'm probably wrong.
"Its a roughly 6dB boost at 60Hz and 4kHz and the mids are left alone. But the net result is of course a sort of mid scoop with a slight volume boost." Is what @father of fires said. For me it's a great little mojo box that adds some punch to my signal. Always on as of right now. Here's a simple demo I recorded a while ago showing off the Contour Pre and MBD-1:
It’s a contour haha. It’s kinda like the switch on an old GK amp, the contour switch, it adds some more beef and highs. Stacks really well with dirt boxes too. I only got to play it for a week or so (hopefully I can get one again and get some more time with it) but the time I did have with it that is what it sounded like to me. Its def a tone sweetener
I just sent the wife this thread and said I better start taking this poopie more seriously. My first immediate thought was that this was wholly unnecessary but I'm certainly flattered. Who needs sleep! I'm very close to helping a friend launch his new pedal and I'm sorta close to launching a few Artist Series Damnation pedals. I have two potential folks and a factory lined up to help me build but all of that will take some time to sort out. I have a to-do list that stretches to July but I'm excited about what's to come. Thanks everyone for the kind words and support.
Had the MDB 1, but sold it. Still liked it a bunch, and appreciate what fof is doing here. Looking forward to future creations.
OK, so the obvious answer happened to be the correct one in this case. Didn't wanna ASS-U-ME. Love the idea of a contour that doesn't mess with the mids. F'r instance The Ampeg Ultra Lo could be fun when playing solo, but I didn't like it at the gig unless I had a super-midrangey bass, or I boosted one of the Vari-mid settings to "re-voice" the mids.
