Dan Armstrong Green Ringer

i've never tried one on bass, but they are pretty cool for guitar...plus they are pretty cheap to make yourself, i am putting one together and it will cost about 30 dollars...

 

I built one a long time ago, combined with a stratoblaster and an orange squeezer all in the same box. There's an audio clip on my site. Scroll down to the ringer squeezer.

Sounds cool. Cuts a lot of the low frequencies, so you might want to use it with a blender to be able to mix some of your clean sound back in. I would also recommend putting a simple booster or disto circuit in front of it to get it to sound more extreme... stratoblaster, blue clipper, or maybe a bazz fuss would be cool.

Yeah, that would work, too. But, I was thinking of just making it all one circuit, booster + green ringer.

Haven't tried one by itself but there's a Green Ringer 'built in' to the Mutron Octave divider and I always keep it on if I'm using it - very stanky.

Zappa slayed with that pedal.
