That's what I thought at first, but it looks like there's a wooden-looking pickup in it's place.
    Why remove the pickup?

    Thanks for the replies.
brothernewt, that's actually a different bass than is being played in the video. I believe this one is the same as the video.

It looks like he put a wood block in place of the pickup.

wow... ok. I'm a looong time clutch fan and haven't seen that one. Normally they use pretty vintage type instruments. That looks like a complete custom job. Inlays... bridge... extra pickup... replaced neck (middle) pu... extra knobs... long scale. Maybe just a rare bass. No idea.

I'm sure it still is full of the low end Ampeg/Sunn rumble!

Yeah, I've been listening to them since the mid-90s or so and have never seen any member play anything that custom/modern, except for those custom lp clones that Tim and Neil play.

I saw Clutch tonight and I was surprised to see that Dan was playing a Ric and it was booming! Wicked tone, I mean wicked! Clutch btw were phenomenal.

I've been seeing them live since '94, and he's been off and on with the Ric. I agree that he gets an amazing tone with it through his Ampeg rig.
