Date a West Germany Warwick

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by MichiBass, Mar 3, 2006.

  1. A friend of mine has an Warwick Streamer LX 5 with s/n

    F 038976 97

And it stands on the beck of the neck "Made in West Germany"

So, what year? 1997? Impossible, the Germany was split into east and west until the reunification in 1990, the fall of the wall, so ?

I wouldn't say it's that impossible, as even though the wall is gone, the distinction between East and West Germany is sort of still there, it depends on who you're talking to.
As far as I know, the Streamer LX models are fairly new-ish and weren't around before '89. Have you emailed big W about the serial number?
  3. Not yet, what email ?
  4. O posted on their forum, now let's see, I'm gonna tell you if I will get an answer.

Anybody else can date the LX 5?

That serial number indicated that its a 97.

Is it stamped into the very top of the headstock? Up behind the W mark?
  6. I don't know where it is stamped, it's a friend's bass

I have only seen "Made in West Germany" on the electronics cover so far, not stamped on the head. That would explain this whole thing.
Also, the old serial numbers were different IIRC.
  8. What year is my Warwick?

There's no "made in..." sign on the back of Warwick Basses.
Maybe your friend is referring to the stamps on the back of the tuners.
If I remember well they are still stamping West Germany on their tuners.

Hovewer the Streamer LX was introduced in 1996/97
  12. Yes. I'm sorry, it stands West Germany on the Tuners! So, the bass is 1997!

    Thanx to all.
