Date on Roundwounds

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Marcap, Jul 15, 2002.

  1. Some one told me that round wounds were invented after flatwounds. Any idea on about when they first came out?

I'm pretty sure that roundwounds were invented after flatwounds. I actually seem to remember reading somewhere (might be the Rotosound website) that the late John Entwhistle was a leading figure in popularising the use of round wound strings!
  3. When I first started, roundwounds were unknown. I first remember them about 1969 or so...about the same time the SVT was intriduced. Hmmmm...?

Roundwounds were around in the 60's and possibly earlier - they just weren't popular until Rotosounds came out.

I KNOW La Bella had a roundwound set in the 60's and I think Fender did too.
