Im having a woman over for a dinner date at my house. I need suggestions, nothing that will scare her away and preferably not too cheesy or cliche.

Plug in the iPod and ask her to select something. If it's on your iPod you should be able to stand it, and it will tell you what she's into. This is assuming that there's a wide varity available.

Just put on something softer that you feel comfortable listen to as well, but something that stands out a little and show you have a deeper interest in music (or her...:D)

Avoid too slick music, and music appealing only to music nerds.

I'd probably put on a record with Katie Melua or Solomon Burke, or a nice straightahead jazz record by e.g. Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Donald Byrd or Diana Krall. Perhaps some Beatles could work too, or Frank Sinatra.

Make a playlist with various music that doesn't end after an hour or two.

  11. +2 ! GREAT suggestions.

Johnny Mathis ballads are also often well-received in such venues.

  12. BTW, I trust you WILL report back here tomorrow regarding the results of significant research.

No personal details. Just confirmation of the music that was well-received.

  13. I'd put on pop/rap, but I'm a kid. That's what them girls like.
  14. First of all Rat, you never let on how much you like a girl. "Oh, Debbie. Hi." Two, you always call the shots. "Kiss me. You won't regret it." Now three, act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?" Four, when ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It's a classy move. "Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice." And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.

Well, while i was making dinner and she was just hanging around, i had her choose what she wanted to play, which was nice. Then for dinner i put on Kind of Blue. Lets just say, the music was well received. :)
  19. Good man. ;)

I put on Kind of Blue for my girlfriend the other night, just for hanging around and cuddling on the couch. She liked it.

Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" is a winner also.
