:D Yes, dating in the chronological sense.

Anyway, I'm interested in purchasing an old jazz bass body which is supposed to be from the 60's or early 70's, it has been refinished and has had a few different bridges on it (extra holes). Because of these factors it would have minimal 'vintage' value compared with other less beat-up unmodified pieces. Anyway, my question is how do you actually tell what era a fender body is from, they don't have dates on them like the necks do?

    Thanks,

    Chris

From about '71 through '82, JBs had 4" spacing between the pickups. Before and after that, it was 3-1/2". I don't know of any other differences. All the changes I am aware of were to the wiring, or the neck, which doesn't show up on the body.

Do you measure the pickup spacing from the center of each pickup or the inside edge?

    Thanks for your help,

    Chris
