David Hasselhof's Rock Band 1973

Isnt the Hoff's music huge in Germany or something?

Yes, I played in a cover band back in 1989-90 in Germany and he was huge. Of course "I've been looking for freedom" resonates well with 17 million people who just got the iron curtain lifted, and we from the western part certainly shared their joy. But yes, when we wanted to fill the dance floor we pulled out "I've been looking for freedom".

Hi,

Back in 1973 I was in my first band (in L.A.) and David Hasselhof joined as our singer. He was waiting tables, drove an orange Camaro and trying to become a TV actor. No doubt, we sucked terribly and David certainly triumphed in TV if not as a singer. But a good time was had by all and it was a formative time for me learning bass. Lots of fun. Anyway, thought y'all might enjoy these pictures of the band "PTARLAK" (tar-lock) to see how goofy we all were.:D

Well, here is one pic of David rehearsing. Cannot figure how to resize the whole group pics dammit. If I change the inches or pixels they crop and leave only half the picture---can't make the pics to 1200x1200 in their entirety. Frustrating

NOTE I just added a couple band pictures and flyer --(post #8 + 16 below)

I just wanted to join YOUR fan club and thank you for sharing your memories. The Hoff is part of pop culture and you've made him a little more real and accessible. He's no Elvis but Hoff is OK in my book.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Yeah he's a friggin superstar in germany lol
Credit where credit is due. He made himself into a international cultural icon.

That being said, the bar for being a Promi is ridiculously low here. The popularity of Looking for Freedom here was a happy timing coincidence more than anything else. The Hoff hasn't been "big in Germany" since the late 80s.

He's also popular at The Mediocre Bassist Club.
