What do you think of this single chain ?

    IMG_9007.

Fretless P Bass -> Boss Tuner -> Boss DD-3 Delay -> Boss DS-1(color and knobs placement say so) -> EHX Bassballs -> Ampeg SVT CL w/SVT 810.

I took the picture at the Peter Murphy concert "for 40 years of Bauhaus ruby celebration tour featuring David J".
at Mascotte Club in Zürich on 12.11.2018.

It was a brilliant concert !

I think that it shows you don't need fancy boutique pedals on a perfectly laid out pedalboard to play a professional show.

The pedals are fine, delay into dirt is a good thing, the only problem here is: I missed that show, tami!

  4. Yup, gets the job done night after night that is what matters on tour. High diddle diddle fiddle and piddle is a lot of fun when you got time on your hands but when it comes time to put it down on stage it is plug, stomp and go - the less muss and fuss the better.

What sunglasses did he use? Is there a better shot of the set list? He is amazing to watch .... he never watches his fretting hand

    I mean his fretless hand....

David wore RayBan Wayfarer sunglasses. I do have a slightly better shot of the set list, but it's only the first part...
I remember the 2nd part songs but not their exact order. I think I miss one or two songs. It was something like this:

    Burning from the inside
    Bela Lugosi's dead
    Silent hedges
    Kick in the eye
    Hollow hills
    Passion of lovers
    She's in parties
    Adrenalin
    Dark entries
    Severance
    Telegram Sam
    Ziggy Stardust

Not at all. On the contrary he was very happy to play this small venue.

I will be seeing him, peter and David in February
    Can’t wait

  12. Super cool stuff. I guess if it's not broken, don't fix it? It's like Billy Duffy from The Cult. He uses all Boss pedals. They work, and if there's a problem while you're on tour, they're super quick and easy to replace.

I met David at his book signing at Rough Trade in Brooklyn (NYC) earlier this year. Very nice guy, and fortunately I was able to get him to briefly geek out about his bass rig. He talked about why he first got a fretless bass, because the guy in the store said not to since it's harder to play.

Cool info about his bass. I didn't know, thanks !

Actually the reason of my post was due to the pedal order (delay before dirt) which surprised me rather than the pedals itself being Boss and not boutique.

  14. Oh, sorry I missed your initial point. :)

Cheers, from a fellow left-handed bassist....

    Thank you !

My second bass is a fretless P. You sure know why...

  16. Nice! Funny, if I remember correctly, he said his initial attraction to the fretless was simply that it was cooler-looking.

That chain seems right to me. I've seen Bauhaus a few times, PM a handful and David J at a 'living room' show (that one was cool, got to hang and talk with him for a bit. The Bassballs is for stuff like silent hedges and just gives that wide slow envelope. Most of his style/tone comes from the fretless Precision.
