I've emailed Aguilar about this and haven't gotten a response yet so I'll throw it out here. Last night during rehearsal, in between songs after about an hour of playing, my DB750 (run through a NV610) shut off. I checked the power cable, switched room outlets, and the amp wasn't particularly warm. All of the eq settings were flat except the bright and deep switches on, pre and master at noon. I've run it exactly the same way for months with no problem, same bass too. Anyway, I tried to restart it and the blue 'status' night briefly flashes right when I throw the power switch, but then nothing more happens. I checked it again this morning and get the same thing. Any help would be much appreciated. I have a MB backup, but I really, really need this amp to work ASAP. Thanks
Sounds like a problem in the pre-amp to me. I agree with Paul. Definitely think it is time for a tech.
Call Aguilar. You can talk to someone in the shop, and they'll walk you through dianosing the problem.
Were it me, I'd be seeing if there are any in-line fuses that may have popped (check the tech manual, if you have one). If an amp dies but doesn't smoke or smell funny, it's usually something very simple. Last amp I had that did this was a GK 400 where the solder joint for the AC from the wall came undone. *very* simple fix. But if there are no obvious fuses, see what Ag says. Post what happens, will ya? I've been considering an 751 for a while now, so I'd like to see what kind of support they give you.
Well, based on the email description of the problem I sent to Aggie, they said a tech should work on it. I was hoping that I could have at least spoken to someone in person to talk about the problem in more detail and talk about any possible 'simple fix' options. Now I have to decide whether to sent it coast to coast to New York or find someone local here in O.C. to look at it.
Any update? Are you saying the status light just keeps blinking and never goes solid? If it briefly lights and then goes out maybe it is not getting enough juice. Did you try plugging it in another outlet in another location? Just trying to eliminate the obvious. That baby does draw a lot at ramp-up.
Unfortunately they really can't tell you to start poking around inside the unit, even if they KNOW it's a simple fix- too much liability. Bummer, but I'm sure it'll be OK.
that status light and the long warm up time exist for a reason. iirc, the unit goes through a diagnostic and if there is an issue the unit is supposed to shut down
Update: Its at Ampwerx in Long Beach and I've been in contact with Marco at Aggie about it. Still no word on the exact issue. On a 'double wammy' note: The urgency to get the amp back is off the table. I just found out that the band I've been with for the last 4 years replaced me without so much as a courtesy phone call. So much for loyalties.
