Has anyone tried this tuning? I guess you'd need to restring your bass, but I think the creative possibilities would be worth the trouble.

why not tune all in 6th instead ??? like D,B,G#,F ??? Or all in 5th like a cello ( CGDA ).

On of the master of wierd tuning is Micheal Manring and Zander Zon.

  5. I think you need to use this tuning to play in Van Halen

That's it! That's the tuning that all of these local hardcore/metalcore/moroncore bands have been playing in! I was wondering how a riff that sounded sooo monotone could look like it had to be played all over the fretboard....

There is precedent for these kinds of tunings. For example, the violin is tuned GDAE which is Australian for "hello".

  11. This was popular in Germany around the 1700s.

    They called it "DeutchBAG" tuning.

I prefer EGAD tuning. People find it surprising and impressive.

If you want to be really metal, DEAD tuning is the way to go.

  14. I'm personally a fan of BADDAD tuning. My father taught it to me. Can never get it to sound good though...

I've heard of Irish Death-Metal rockers using DEED tuning.

I used DBAG tuning exclusively until I graduated high school.
Since I am now closer to 50 than 18 I have switched to AGED. Seems to help hold the groove down better, and not nearly as distracting.
