I'm looking to get a new Bart preamp as you may have seen, but I'm also trying to see what the cause of death for my current is.

I was trying to tighten output jack and knobs, I tightened them as best I could, but for the jack, I had to use pliers to hold the inside part of it while I turned with a combo wrench. I didn't take the battery out before I did this; could the small voltage running through the preamp have caused a short when the pliers touched the circuits and ground connected to the jack? If not, what else could kill a preamp through tightening of pot knobs and jack?

For the record, the bass still puts out sound, but it is quiet and completely unchangeable by any knobs.
