I just got done re-assembling my J-Bass mongrel that I refinished and my g-string sounds muted compared to the rest..wierd :help:

I had to shim the neck alittle because the bridge was bottomed out and the action was still high ...now the action is nearly perfect...

all the strings sound perfect, low action slight buzz

    the strings were brand new

    what did i do wrong?

I had a wierd sounding D string and my teacher took a look see. He loosened the string out of tune, and then tightened the string back into tune and the wierdness went away.

I guess you get some strange happenings when you go past tune when tightening and then back down.

This may or may not help. Give it a whirl!
