Dead Spot (but only on 1 pickup)

Just wondering if anyone else had run into this:

Neck-thru 5 string, (2) EMG-HZ passive pickups.

On the back pickup, all notes sound even and clean.

On the front pickup, the 2nd - 6th fret on the E string sound very dull. Other strings sound fine on these frets.

These are a new set of GHS Brite Flats, so I suppose a bad string is a possibility.

Raised the front pickup- problem mostly solved.
