Dean Basses: any opinion please?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Rockin John, May 17, 2001.

  1. Good mornig Guys.

My search for a mid / low priced bass has brought me into contact with (naturally) MIM J and P and Yamaha.

Now a friend's suggested Dean Edge 4 is a serious bass.

Any comments - good or bad - about these basses, please?

I'd take the Dean over a MIM Fender or Ibanez or Yamaha. The necks seem to be pretty well made. Basswood body, which is ok, in this price range. Good bridge and tuners, and pretty decent electronics. I like them.

I picked up one of their Rhapsody HB fretted four strings recently and have been enjoying it far more than I ever expected. Very slim, playable neck, capable of great action, and the sound, even with a single passive pickup, is quite satisfying. I've got other, "higher end" basses to choose from, but the Dean went out with me on my last Friday's gig.

I had a so-so opinion of them in the past, but have been converted. Of course, like any other bass, it's up to you to determine if it is a diamond or coal.
