These are the Indonesian made Edge 4 Select which are different than the Edge 4 made in Korea which was last made in 2018.
I believe you're the first to post one here on Dean Club!!! and I'd really like to hear/read a detailed review from you when you have spent time with this model. Good snatch! I am a fan of their thin narrow necks and overall neck profile, though I have no idea if these changed at all with the Indonesian made models.

Back in February I succumbed to G.A.S. I had for a while on the Dean Edge Flame 4 bass. They were discontinued in 2019 to make way for the new Edge Select 4 basses made in Indonesia.

Originally introduced in 2016 in 4 and 5 string versions they expanded them to include a 4 string fretless and a 6 string in 2018 for their last year. Also in 2018 they changed all the FB's to Pau Ferro instead of Rosewood as the 2016 and 2017 models were.

Musician's Friend had these on sale over the President's Day Holiday for $399 so I made the jump as these were usually priced at $499 and sometimes at $449.

Mine is the 2018 model with the Pau Ferro FB. It is the last year made in Korea at the WK (World) Factory. In fact I believe the only Dean bass still made at this factory is the 12 string Rhapsody, all other Asian Dean basses now being made in Indonesia or China.

Did they switch to the pau ferro FB because of the rosewood ban? So many basses got held up on impost a couple of years back because of the rosewood issue.

 

I would have to agree.

 

I'm just an amateur that jams with a few other old guys occasionally, so I'm not sure what my opinion is worth... This bass definitely has an Ibanez feel to it. The neck is narrow and exceptionally thin. I find the back of it has sort of a flat contour in the center, feels like a "thin C". Sound-wise, it has sort of a mid to dark tone, and needs the amp EQ to clean it up. Strong clear low end though. 4 bolt neck, decent tuners, nice quality pots with strong detents at center and useable tapers. I really like the three band EQ it's not overpowering like some are. Really nice bridge too. I'd say overall quality is close to the MIM Fenders. It had medium weight with good balance. Hope that covers it short of recording something which I've never done but maybe I can try!

 

Nice review! They had some of these at a M & P shop near me that is also a Dean dealer, but they were all 5 string so I didn't try any of them out.

From same Factory
World Factory Korea made both of these and notice some of the finish similarities.
Obviously not the same bass.
Schecter and Dean both contracted basses with World Korea.
Dean no longer has the Edge basses made at this factory.
Dean only has the 12 string Rhapsody made at this factory.
All other Dean basses are either made in Indonesia of China.

 

Yeah, I've got a Schecter Stiletto from World Factory Korea and it's a great bass.

 

Delivered yesterday. I already have one, but I couldn't pass it up. I was low bid on eBay.

Hi everybody! I'm looking at a Dean Demonator bass, but those, that I see for sale are rather cheap for such respectable brand and claimed to be produced in China. Are Chinese Deans any good, or better look for a Korean one?
Maybe somebody has some original specs or catalogue details for them for check and comparison? I'm a newbie in a Dean world, sorry!

 

I’d look for an older Korean model.
There’s some nice ones out there

Posting at the encouragement of B-Mac, I didn’t realise a Dean Club existed! I recently picked up an Edge 6 for a very low price, it’s a project piece for me I think - I am not a fan of the stock bridge and the neck pickup has a nasty buzz, so in the long term I’ll probably overhaul all of the hardware and electrics and make it unique.

 

Very nice. Any chance you take a pic of the back of the headstock or at least tel me the letter(s) and first few numbers of the S/N please.

Yours looks to be a 2015 model.
Basswood body trans black finish and DMT pups.
The Edge 6 Q had a Basswood body with a quilt maple top and EMG pups.

Your bass also came in a fretless version
