Hey folks, I'm new on here but I am hoping one of you fine folks can help me out. I got a dean edge quilt top used from a guy and it has a neck from different dean bass so I'm not sure of the exact model. My question is what pickups does it have? Is there a wiring diagram somewhere I can use for reference? The bass makes a humming noise and I want to check to be sure the wiring is correct. Anyway thanks for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I forgot to mention the pickups have 3 screws 2 on one end and one on the other and measure about 3.5 x 1.5 inches. - drofmij
Do they sound good or not? That would be a more important question! If not find a better replacement fi they're crap.
They sound good but there is a lot of humming. I opened the panel on the back and there is one of those automotive type screw together 2 wires connector thing. Really I just want to wire it up correctly and see how it sounds then but don't have a schematic / diagram for it.
While you're in there maybe try shielding the cavity and grounding everything properly once you find the cause of the hum. Will be super quiet after that.
How about a picture of inside the wiring cavity? My guess is that any VVT schematic, like a jazz bass, should work. The pickup wire colors may be different.
So I opened the back up tonight and I must have been confusing this with another bass - no twist connector. It looks like there is a white, red, and no insulator from each pickup. The red and no insulator are soldered to the back of the volume pots. Does this sound like a J bass style setup? Seems like a lot of extra wire running around in here.
Yes, that looks like VVT, like any jazz type wiring diagram. You just have a shield and red wire gong to ground. Checking the grounds is probably a good place to start. That could be shielding paint in the control cavity. Make sure that’s grounded to the output correctly. Look around at the my bass is humming/buzzing threads here for some other ideas for things to look at.
