Hi Guys, Wonder if you can advise me where to buy a waterslide decal or a rub-on decal as I like to get some art on my no-brand headstock. I don't need a fake one just a nice design. Thank you for your assistance. Chalie
Hi Chalie. Letraset decals/letters are the easiest, and those should be available almost everywhere where they sell toys. Art and hobby stores are usually better stocked though, and You should be able to buy blank ink-jet or laser printer sheets from there as well. For both water-slide and rub-on if my memory serves me correctly. Regards Sam
Depending on what you want, there are on-line/ebay water-slide decal makers that will make custom lettered decals for not that much and as stated craft stores also sell all kinds of sticker-like images and lettering also for cheap.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/vidiot72/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 $15 buys you two, and they're really good quality. Even designed and sent me a picture template! Check out my current build (scroll down a bit) to see what it turned out like for me. I haven't applied them yet...waiting until I need to clearcoat the body and headstock...but you get two, just in case you screw the first one up, and very detailed instructions are provided. On my build you can click the pics to see closer up. Print quality is really good, I can't discern any pixelation with the naked eye.
I did this using Inkscape and my own inkjet printer. I bought the waterslide decal paper for about $7.50 for a 5 pack and used only 1/3 of a sheet. You also have to spray it with a gloss acrylic so tack on another $4. That means for under $15 can do a crap load of decals.[/IMG]
I make my own decals with decal paper, and and ink jet printer. I print all of my decals in reverse and apply them label side down, it its much easier to slide the paper off of the top of the logo than trying to slide the paper out from under it. For the gold and silver decals, I print a white image with black outline, in reverse of course. Spry the decal with the ink bonder and let it dry over night. Then I just fill in the image with a metallic paint pen. The paint pen has to go on after the bonder because, the bonder will lift the paint pen off of the paper and ruin the decal. If you skip the bonder the water will wash the ink off the paper, but the water wont touch the paint pen.
Hopkins, that gold looks awesome. I like the idea of how to print on a colored headstock. When I was reading about how to do your own decals that was the difficulty that many were running into.
The decal paper works fine face down, so it is actually pretty easy. Here is what they look like before it is applied And after This was an extra decal I had left over from a strat project for a good friend. I wont usually use a logo thats not my last name.
