Hi. I really need a new bass amp. I am now in a band and I have to compete with a loud drummer and a 50W tubed guitar amp. I was thinking of some Ampeg stuff, since it's always been good to me and I like the tone. I cant decide between 2x12, 4x12, or 4x10, or anything. I am into many types of music. I play a lot of classic rock stuff (acdc, zeppelin, cream, etc etc) and also some funk things. Can you recommend a good head also? I dont think I can afford tubed now. What do you recommend? I can spend around $700 :bassist:

Hartke HA4000 or HA5500 (both go for less than $600 new)

Any GK amphead rated 400 watts and above. I'm not sure of the exact models or prices, but GK heads are great.

That leaves $100ish for a used 4x10 cab. Try second hand. ;)
Try downsizing the head, therefore paying less => more money for a 4x10 cab => better sound.

If your only going to be using one cab, go with a 4x10 or a 2x12 ;)
