Decreasing string gauge, New nut?

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Marikk, Jun 13, 2017.

  1. My Jazz is current strung with .105 gauge at the E string. If i go down to .095, Is there a chance I would need a new nut cut?

I don't think so. I play TI jazz rounds and those are waay smaller than any nut slots and they play beautifully.

There was a time when i preferred 90's, i tried them over several basses and never really had to change the nut. Some of the Basses were happier than other about it but none of them were show stoppers.

    Go for it!
  5. Thanks all. I wanted to try something lighter on one of my basses but wanted to make sure before i ordered a set
