Demagnetized pickup?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Nomadic Herder, Jul 24, 2001.

  1. I just got done reassembling my Squier P-bass after painting it. I pput the pickups back in and everything stayed connected. None of the wires are/were broken. I plugged it into my amp, nothing. In my tuner, nothing. My cables, amp, tuner work fine with my Jazz bass.

Could it be that with the magnetic battery powered screwdriver I used to reinstall everything, the pickup has been demagnetized and doesnt work anymore? If so, should I/do I have to get a new one?

    Hi,
Very Very unlikely, if not impossible.
What may have happened is that you could have trapped a wire when reassembling the bass.
Take off that scratchplate and have another look!

  3. Thanks a lot. I looked, my dad looked. My dad tested. Then he found that in the pickup one of the white wires came undone. So its all reattached and happy now

Old thread i know.....but i found this handy trick, if you got some decent magnets laying around and want to re-magnetize dead pickups
