i hate to do this, but i need the cash

this is a 1.5 space demeter preamp, with rocker switches for bright, bass frequency (60 hz or 120 hz), and presence (2k or 4k). it also has the nifty jensen transformer DI out.

squeaky clean and works great. $500 shipped to the 48 states.

now just 450!!!! - help i'm super broke

I can't quite make out from the pic; does it have the same (functionally) switches and controls as the 201S?

I believe that to be the case. I inquired of Demeter about mine and he (James Demeter) sent me a PDF copy of the current 201 manual understanding that I have the earlier black Faced 1.5 run item. Another Demeter user also sent me the same manual and has the same understanding as mine. I think it is a pretty safe bet ... Great pre with a great DI.

This isn't technically the "oldest" model of the 201. I used to have one with little "G&L Style" micro-switches for the power, bright and deep and huge grey knobs.

GREAT tone, used to smack the TASTE out peoples' mouth

If I had the means to sell my 201S and buy yours, I definitely would.

Everyone, this is a great preamp.

    You should get you one.

So lo-freq - you have noticed a difference in the old style and new style 201 's ? I had understood that they were essentially the same ?

Some people say the older are a bit purer sounding.
i haven't had the chance to A/B them.

Intersting. I have the 1.5 space and have an incoming 1 space. I'll have to do that A/B. I will say the 1.5 space is just a beautiful pre. Makes wish I had the coin for some of their mic pre's ...

Nice, I dont htink I'll ever understand why they make things in halves of racks, they should have just made it a 2 space :-\

I have this pre, and hadn't used it for a couple years(I had even remembered it as a 1u, not 1.5!). After seeing this post I dug the Demeter back out and just set it on top of my rack. ..WOW.. Tons of warm, uncoloured tone. This is a serously CLEAN pre, and now I have to order a new rack for it!!
As far as the 1 1/2space thing, it makes it easier to allow for a half space of air between it and the top, or it and the power amp, which is quite nice when tubes are involved. This is not neccesary for alot of equipment, and I'm sure it's not done for that reason, but I like it..
