i'm not sure if this is the right forum, but does anyone have any experience/opinions on the demeter vtdb-2b tube direct box? could it be a useful tool to "warm up" the sound of a bass before going to an amp? how does it perfrom in the studio?

    thanks!

    It kills in the studio.

  3. It is an excellent pre for live use (to a console) and in the studio.....I have been using them for years and I know a few engineers and producers who use them to warm up drum loops and keyboards as well......

    Peace,

+1 In fact, I bought mine from tommixx, so this is a "+1" to the very same unit (perhaps!). :p

    Peace,

Yes. I set it to "Boost", and it drives a CA9 fairly well.

Anyone have experience with the VTBP-201s pre as well as the the VTDB-2B DI? Do they have a similar tone?

They are very similar. The 201S is a bit more flexible but they sound very similar at the board.

If your using a demter pre-amp, what would be the need for a direct box?

i don't have a demeter preamp anymore (i used to have the vtb201s), but you could use the direct box for studio work. it would give you a some of that demeter sound before plugging into the board, without having to bring in a rack with the preamp...

so the only use for a di box is a more compact pre-amp?

there are many uses...you could use it live to get a good sound to the front of house, and send it to your amp at the same time to warm up your tone. this is really great with this d.i. because it has a tube built in...if the amp you are using sounds a little "sterile" it could definitely help out...
