The Demeter is a great pre! I've had 2 Roscoe's with Roscoe tuned Demeter pre's (having #3 made as we speak) and I really love the sound. I've also installed a stock Demeter pre in a couple of other basses and had very good results. One bass had the EMG Jazz P/U's and the other Bartolini soap bars. worked great with both. The pre has very glassy highs, adequate mids and nice smooth lows. The pre is also very quiet and comes pre-wired for easy installation.

I have a Demeter preamp in my Roscoe. Demeter pre's and Bartolini pickups go perfectly together. A Demeter pre will give you a clean tone throughout. John Patitucci used one in his old Ken Smith for years. Tyler's use Demeter pre's exclusively. Mike Adler, Harvey Citron and Jon Maghini use them as well. The only type of pickup I can't imagine using a Demeter with would be a vintage type of pickup, although I see that Pat Wilkins is using a Demeter pre in his jazz basses. I'm curious as to how that would sound. I love my Demeter onboard preamp. It gives me a clean, clear tone and allows me to get a wide dynamic range out of my pickups.

The Demeter pre is one of only a couple of available preamps that I like that are on the market.

Sorry that doesn't really contribute to the thread- But does this demeter pre have a website? Or any one have soundclips.

I personally dig the Demeter Pre amp,I've used them for
years.the Demeter pre amp to my ears seem to have very
pristine highs,Strong punchy mids and Bass that sits
just right in it's tonal setting options, the demeter is also
very transparent and the slightest EQ adjustment is
very noticeable.I suggested to Mike Adler the Demeter
Pre amp(he's installing one in my the newest 8 string
that he's building for me)as well as Pat Wilkins and
to me Pat makes a killer Jazz(modern)Bass it has the
power and attitude of a Celinder update J Bass(very
very clear)with a nice sweet finesse to it.Pat makes
one of the most versatile Basses I have heard in a
while.and I also use on occasion a Demeter out board
pre amp live and in the studio.

I'm thinking about trying one. The frequency centers seem so funky to me though. I know they give up a very clear piano-like tone, but I go in for a buttery-tubey fingerstyle burp. Maybe I should try another OBP-3. Some people do an OBP-3 install with a passive tone and no treble knob. I'm using an NTMB3 right now, but it seems I always run it with the mids flat and the treble cut..maybe some bass boost. The 3-position mid-switch seems cool, but only the 400K position seems usable. Hmm....

I thought JPs Bass remained all original with Smith parts to date. It was recently up for sale again and there was no mention of any Mods..
