I'm curious about the various adjectives TBers use to describe a bass tone. I wonder if everybody means the same thing when they use these terms?
How about a definition or better yet a sound clip for things like:

    punch
    growl
    boom
    round
    tight
    mud

    etc.

What are some other ways to describe a bass tone?

Hmmm... I only have Boom and Mud....

Boom is kind of onomatopoeic (sp?) and Muddiness is an indistinctness, ie not being able to clearly distinguish the sound of a note (eg. Billy Sheehan!)

I'm sure someone with a better equipped brain than me can clear this up....

I'm sure the only answer is that there is no one answer... words, like sounds, are just too mutable. You've just got to bounce the conversation back and forth until it becomes clear (or, in this modern day and age, link to a sound sample...)

Punch...round mids that pound the chest
    Boom...unbridled airey lows
    Crunch...Squire-like musical fret noise
    Growl...motorized low-mid tones
    Honk...growl snapped, slapped or popped
    Pop...normally round
Snap...normally has a bite or edge
P-bass...muffled rubble with low cycling growl
J-bass...crunch, growl and snap (bridge); punch and boom (neck)
    Mwah...muffled whiny growl

    I hope this helps...

    ;)
