Throughout the years of playing bass, I have always desired to get my hands on a Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray. However, the more than a grand price tag has always deterred me from getting one. Then I found a website, dhgate.com, which is a Chinese wholesale website that claims to have these beautiful basses for a couple hundred. According to the pictures these are the authentic, made in California Ernie Ball Music Man bass guitars, not the Sterling. I'm wondering if anyone has heard about this website/ bought one of these (apparent) smoking deals. Or whether this is a scam. Website seems secure, just without holding one of those basses in my hands makes me nervous. Moderator note: sketchy link removed. Heres a link to one of the many bases they're selling
Not sure why the link changed to "I just got $50 Coupons!" But it just sends you to the Stingray on the dhgate website.
{} Those are fake, but I'm not one to tell you how to spend your money. I'm sure others will be along soon to say the same thing.
Just the fact that your link to their page turned into a spam kind of click bait msg, should probably tell you all you need to know about that sight. I’m not going to say I know anything for sure, but generally “too good to be true”, especially online, turns out to be too good to be true.
my .0000042 cents tis what is is and what it ain't is anything close to the real deal. It's like a mirage: on the other hand: It may be a very playable, and after a lot of work, and $$ to get the electronics, hardware, frets and setup (unless you plan of doing it yourself) you'd be 1/2 way to a real deal. Look into a USA SUB Or a Sterling Ray Sterling by Music Man Come on now, isn't the headstock logo appropriation disingenuous? That they are deceitful from the start should make one pause to ponder the scruples of the forgers to begin with. It's your $$
it’s easy to find good condition ernie ball stingrays for under $900. i had one for sale for $850 for quite a while before it sold. and i got lots of offers of $6-700 too so apparently people think that’s what they’re worth.
If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Counterfeiters and scammers rely on the human desire to "get a deal."
Chinese fakes are not cool. Get a SBMM Ray34 if you can't afford the real deal. They are superb, and VERY close to the original in quality and craftmanship. The SUB will also be much better than the chinese knock-off.
The idea of "copyright" is a nebulous concept in large areas of China. There are even fake Apple stores there selling fake Apple products. DHGate is notorious for pushing counterfeit items. Cheap Chinese fake
It's a tale as old as time. You want something, but you can't afford it. What's the answer? Easy -- just save up your money and buy the Real McCoy when the time is right. Period.
I recently saw a youtube video of a person who bought a fake from China. The pole pieces on the pickups were actually silver paint dots.
