DI Bass amp to Garageband

apologies if this has been posted before.

currently i plug my bass directly into an apogee jam and then select a bass sim in garageband.

however, i would prefer to DI my bass amp to garageband.

with a budget of up to 150€, which audio interface would posters recommend?

I've always been a big fan of the Focusrite Scarlett interfaces. They sound fantastic for the money and you can save a bit of money by buying a Gen 3 model if you can find one.

Are you using GarageBand on an iPhone/iPad or on a Mac?

You can use pretty nearly anything on either system but interfaces like the Scarlett will be larger than your phone, so if you use your phone you might want something smaller.

Mac mainly, but possibly an iPad too.

The scarlett is on my list but i'm also looking at the UA volt 1, and possibly going over budget with a Volt 176...

Your bass amp DI won't be appreciably different than the DI on an audio interface. Depending on the model of amp it might be entirely the same thing. What amp are you using for this task?

something portable, which works seamlessly with garageband.

the free bass plugins in garageband are ok, but i'm hoping that DI'ing my fender acb50 along with my pedals will offer something better...

Since this is a tube amp with a 15":
In Garage Band, rather than using the Bass Amp Designer, I'd try to dial the sound by using the (Guitar) Amp Designer's "Large Tweed Amp" with the "Brown Panel 1×15", for example. That may roughly match. You can then always fine tune with the Channel EQ and a compressor.

That's a very nice amp, and since the DI is after the power amp it is one of the few examples where what you're trying to accomplish will yield appreciably different results than going direct to an interface. Watch the master volume as that will dictate DI level. You won't get any of the cabinet's tone this way, so you may still like a cab sim in the DAW but could likely forego an amp sim if you're currently using one.

i've seen a second hand UA apollo solo (including a thunderbolt cable) advertised locally for 320€. i'm assuming it won't come with any of the UA plugins, as they would have been registered by the previous owner (it's being sold by a third party). it's double my budget, but from what i've seen and read, it's a pretty good interface. does anyone have any thoughts on the solo or whether the 320€ represents good value? thanks in advance.

If the only thing you'll ever do with it is what you describe, most entry level interfaces will do fine. I'd even say the Scarlett would. I have an old ART USB Dual Pre that works fine for easy jobs like this, and I keep it at a secondary location.

But if you ever want to use a mic and/or a second input, I'd try to stretch to the SSL2.
