Did Fender ever make a 6 string bass?
not in standard production, no.
fender bass VI?
Thats not really a bass. :<
true, but it still has "bass" in it's name
The Fender bass VI was more of a baritone guitar than a six string bass.
If I remember correctly Roscoe Beck had a six string prototype, but it either was a special order or never got passed prototype. I could be wrong.
And im sure someone is going to mention the bassist from alien ant farm has a 6 string fender but its a custom shop and does not resemble a fender in any way.
Custom Shop basses from NAMM a while back:
ufffff strange head stock,Fender 6 string..awesome
Yea, 'yowza!' (hehe) I'm digging the bass in the 1st 2nd and 4th pictures.
I've seen those before, but I never noticed how the pickup poles don't line up with the strings at all. Yuck. They probaly still sound okay, but man, they need to put some covers on those bad boys or somethin.
Fender did, kind of - they were behind Heartfield, who made the DR-6 and DR-6C. The 6C was neck-thru, the 6 was bolt on. Both had active electronics, passive pickups, and - suprise, suprise - XLR jacks on them. They weren't too bad, they had graphite bars in the necks, had an ok sound, but were decently economical.
Fender made a 6-string in the Heartfield line of basses.
