This Christmas my wife got me a Marcus Miller signature bass. I love the looks and the sound but i notice it had a popping noise at the input jack so since it was new i decided to take it back to get it fix.So my wife handle me the receipt and i ran down to Guitar Center. When i was waiting to get help at i couldnt help to notice a Warwick Corvette standard 5 string with a price tag of $749 new! Since i was still waiting for assistance (typical service at guitar center) i decided to get it down myself and plug it in thru a similar combo amp i have at home (ampeg ba115). I was totally blown away of the sound this bass produce. just to make sure it was legit i plug in my MM bass as well. No Contest!! Warwick had a way better sound ,sounds like a jazz bass on steroids.Even the hot blond chick that was checking me out playing while her B/F was looking for a starter bass,,She even said the warwick sounded better...So to make a long story short i brought home the Warwick and still had store credit to spare...But now the wife thinks i didn't appreciate the gift she got me..And took it the wrong way..So anyway's...Since y'all are the experts..would u had made the same decision if u were in my shoes?.........thanks

    hells yes i would have.

only i would have been smart and told her that the problem was something that couldn't be fixed and that instead of waiting for a new mm to be shipped to the store you decided to get the corvette.

  3. I wouldn't have because I've had a Warwick Corvette Standard. Didn't like the neck AT ALL. Way too big and fat. The jazz fits my hands much better.

  7. Dude, it was a gift from your wife... it was a good bass, and the sentimentalism from the gift should have overridden any gas you has for the warwick.

    Just imo.

Hmmm maybe i did screw up! but everyone else especially my fellow band members thinks the warwick sounds way better and looks better. i just hate to take it back the warwick and buy another one at the regular price of nearly $1200 bucks.

Taking it back and buying another MM won't fix this...that train has left the station.

This was a massive blunder on the marriage front. You need to start working on clearing up this mess as soon as possible.

If something like this ever comes up again, ask yourself which you like best...the bass or the wife. As for the bandmates, they're fun at practices and gigs, but when you go home to a cold bed, they're not much help.

Different strokes for different folks. When I buy my wife a gift I just want to make sure she loves it and will use it. Just this holiday season I bought her a new purse. I spent time picking it out with help from the nice sales person. She took it back and got something that she liked better - and I'm happy. My goal was for her to have a purse she loves and will use. Same deal as the bass. Your wife won't be the one playing it - you are. She should be thrilled that you have something that you love and will use. No, it's not the one she picked out, but it is still her gift to you.

I think you did the right thing. Now your job is to gracefully help her to realize that ;)

Your wife really put her heart into buying you a gift and you basically trashed it, man you are neck deep, pity you.

To be honest I would have kept it, no matter what , but would probably have bought the other one as well, as a cheap backup that you can gig with and rough up, because you don't want to mess with the beautiful gift she got for you, you're keeping it for special.

You did the right thing. MM was broken, and you found better bass when you took it back. It's still a gift from your wife you know...

Once I bought nice lingerie to my girlfriend as x-mas present, but there was a small tear on the pants section. She went to return the stuff, but found more nicer lingerie. I was pleased...

  16. well if my GF got me a marcus, id have to find some way out of it, because i cant stand they way they sound! haha

i agree with both sides to an extent. depends on the woman i suppose.

buy her a nice ring or earrings and hope she is nice about it. be real romantic. Then you will know. If she takes the ring back and gets something else, sleep on the couch.
