Differece between gauges??

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by FloydFreak500, Mar 17, 2005.

  1. so i was wondering what is the main sound difference between light and heavy gauges?
  2. the heavier the gauge the tighter the tension, also heavier gauge strings sound darker than their lighter counterparts (to my ears anyway)

heavy for me is a more...full, heavier sound. Light is more snappy and less full - I'm not great at explaining it...
  4. thanks. i think for my next strings, i am going to get heavy.

I have noticed that heavy gauge strings cause more fatigue in my hands.

That happens as the increased tension makes you have to do more to have the same playing style that you did before.
